                                            WOMAN'S CLUB OF BELVIDERE

A member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs (NJSFWC) and the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), the Women's Club of Belvidere is one of the largest nondenominational, nonpartisan, volunteer service organizations for women in New Jersey. Club members include women of all ages from 18 on up. Members are businesswomen, homemakers, teachers, nurses, students, and retirees.

The Women's Club is very proud to celebrate their 80th anniversary this year. The first meeting was held on January 2, 1930 at the Belvidere Hotel. The goals, then and now, are represented by its projects. These have included food and clothes collections for the needy, particularly during the Depression, scholarships for scouts, and challenged individuals. The Club also supported servicemen during war times, contributed to local hospitals, ambulance corps, fire departments, the Red Cross, town improvements, the Belvidere Pool, and scholarships. They helped spearhead the drive to purchase a 'Jaws of Life," and a defibrillator for the local police, supported local crisis centers, Meals on Wheels, and nursing homes.

More far reaching projects included donations for the refurbishing of the Statue of Liberty, Operation Smile (which provides free corrective surgery to children in the US and other countries,) and sending needed items to areas of conflict or disaster.

Fund-raisers are held throughout the year to help support these various projects. They have included participation in Victorian Days, holding Tricky Trays, and raffles as well as selling items such as cookbooks, jams, flowers, soup and pizzas.

Throughout the years the Woman's Club of Belvidere has donated to many groups on a regular basis. Some of these have included the Domestic Abuse Crisis Center, The Salesian Sisters Nursing Home, the Meals at Home program, local nursing homes, local families in need, the Belvidere River Rescue, and  Norwescap.  They will continue to serve the community and support educational needs through scholarships to high school students.

This non-profit, volunteer organization welcomes new members. Membership is not restricted to Belvidere residents. We currently have members in other New Jersey towns, and Pennsylvania. Regular monthly meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of each month this year, October through May at the United Presbyterian Church at 224 Mansfield Street, Belvidere. The meetings begin at 7:00PM and include a program and refreshments. Feel free to come anytime as a guest.
